Magliner

The Magline brand is so trusted and such a perennial feature of every industry that requires materials handling, that many hand trucks are often simply called “Magliners.”

The Equipment Every Upkeep-Minded Homeowner Should Have in Their Shed

There are, of course, far too many tools that a homeowner could and would likely find useful to be listed in entirety here. It would be next to impossible to do so with solely outdoor tools even. So this isn’t as much just pointing out that homeowners should have a good shovel, a few sturdy pairs of work gloves, rakes, and the like in their shed (though they should). Rather, this article is focused on the equipment that may be less commonly found in sheds but is still incredibly useful. So, if you are planning some landscaping, renovation, or are just focusing on upkeep, owning the following tools is always a good idea.

Chainsaw

It’s not that chainsaws are a piece of equipment to be taken lightly. However, many homeowners, if they consider chainsaw ownership at all, consider them excessively expensive, dangerous, or even unnecessary. That said, if you are considering doing anything more than the lightest and most basic tree and shrub maintenance, a chainsaw can be an incredibly useful tool. And when used properly, like virtually all equipment, a chainsaw can be safe as well. Plus, small gas and electric chainsaws can be had for a surprisingly modest amount.

Collapsible Hand Truck

Hand trucks aren’t exactly a rarity in sheds but they can surprisingly be overlooked. Anyone who’s ever used a hand truck is well aware of how incredibly labor-saving they are, but they may not be familiar with collapsible hand trucks. Also known as “convertible” hand trucks, a collapsible hand truck can be used vertically, horizontally, and often in a diagonal position between the two. For something like carrying compost, fertilizer, cement, or anything else heavy that comes in bags, a collapsible hand truck that can be used horizontally can be a life- (and back) saver.

Lightweight Hand Truck

Though a stair climbing cart isn’t something you’d find in the shed of a homeowner, there are aspects of it that can prove useful around the home—the ability of it to climb stairs being one of them. An ideal tool for a homeowner is a lightweight aluminum hand truck (or dolly) with stair climbers, especially if going up and down stairs is a fairly common part of your property work, or you foresee it being one. A classic hand truck to help with tasks around the home makes an excellent gift or addition to any shed. And, if work involving stairs is not all that common but still might be a feature or upkeep, consider attachments to an existing hand truck that optimize it for stair climbing.

Shop Vacuum

Shop vacuums, like chainsaws, can sometimes be dismissed by homeowners, even the more DIY-oriented, as unnecessary, overpriced, or overpowered. But the fact is that a good shop vac—particularly a good wet/dry shop vac—is one of those tools for the handy homeowner that, once you have it, you’re not sure how you ever did without it. And they’re less expensive than you may think. Any number of decent wet/dry shop vacs can be found for well under $100, and strictly dry shop vacs are more affordable still.
